This ends the 2010 baseball season at Cleve Borman Field. The Napa Baseball Program is now in charge of all operations at Borman Field, including field maintenance, improvements, and concessions. I have been informed that the Concession Stand will offer a bigger assortment of items, and that the restrooms will be renovated, among other improvements. If anyone has any suggestions (no, Ted, you can’t get free beer), contact me in care of the Allied Council Office, and I will pass them on to the proper people.
If anyone is interested in a Horseshoe Pitching Tournament, please contact me at:

**Disclaimer. I noticed in the latest Observation Post, telling Home Members to come to the games and boo the umpires. That is NOT my writing. I was brought up never to boo players, umpires, or anyone. Plus, I was an umpire for 44 years, and would never malign my brother umps (at least not in public).
Reminder: The Horseshoe Court has been renovated, and there are ‘shoes available. The Court is in the Main Picnic area, so come out and toss a few, and enjoy the fresh air and the scenery.

Mother Nature cooperated with the Napa American Legion 13 Under team on Sunday, 04/18/10. Game 1..In a score more suited for football, Napa defeated Sonoma, 20-7.Game 2..This was one of the better baseball games here at Borman Field. The game was scoreless until the top of the seventh inning, when Santa Rosa scored one run. In the home half of the inning, Napa's first two batters made outs, and when the next batter hit a ground ball, it looked like the game was over. But Napa remained alive when the throw sailed over the first baseman's head, and by the time the ball got back into the infield, the runner was at third base. Napa's next batter drove the ball over the center fielder's head, driving in the tying run, and raced around the bases to score the winning run.

BASEBALL RETURNS TO BORMAN FIELD

There hasn't been much action  at Cleve Borman field recently, due to the weather. But, now the Sun is shining, and there will be a double header tomorrow (Sunday, 04/18), starting at 11:00 am. Unfortunately, that's all the information I have. I don't know what teams, or the agr group, only that there are two games scheduled.

On Tuesday, 04/20, St. Helena High School will play host to St. Vincent High School, starting at 4:00 pm.

Come out and watch these fine young men play baseball.

SPORTS NEWS UPDATE

Saturday, 03/06/2010

The Napa 13 Under team swept another twin bill, this time from Danville.

It was a nice day for baseball, with no rain, or wind. The Napa Nine increased their unbeaten streak to seven with an 11-6 win over the Danville Colt 45s, in Game #1.

Game #2 showed the heart of the Napa team, coming back from an 0-5 deficit, to double-up, 12-6, over the Danville Colt 45s. The win gives Napa an 8-0 record in pre-season play.

The double-header scheduled for Sunday, 03/07/2010, was canceled.

Weather permitting, there are two games scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, March 13th and 14th.

The renovation of the Horseshoe Court at the Picnic Grounds is progressing well. When the weather cooperates, the Volunteers have done wonders to the place. As soon as they can, a portion of the fence will be removed, allowing access for wheelchairs.

Bob

SPORTS NEWS - 3/3/2010

The Napa 13 Under team just keeps on rolling.

Saturday's, 02/27/10 double-header was canceled due to inclement weather.

On Sunday, 02/28/10, Napa combined great hitting, and great pitching, to sweep the twin-bill from the North Bay (Santa Rosa) Warriors.

Game 1 was no contest, as Napa shut out the Warriors, 12-0. In Game 2, the hits, and runs, just kept on coming, with a final score of 15-3.

Napa remains unbeaten in pre-season games, with a record of 6-0.

Weather permitting, there will be two games on Saturday, 03/06/10, and another pair on Sunday, 03/07/10. First game on each day is scheduled for 11:00 am. Come on out, and watch these fine young men play an exciting brand of baseball.

SPORTS NEWS by Bob "Bleacher Bum" Moschin

BASEBALL'S BACK at BORMAN

The Napa Valley American Legion 13-year-olds played, and swept a pair of double-header practice games over the wekend. The weather was more conducive to football than baeball, but the rain held off permitting all four games to to go the distance.

On Saturday, 02/20/10, the host, Napa Valley, defeated the visiting San Ramon team, 2-1, in Game 1, and 11-2, in Game 2.

On Sunday, 02/21/10, Napa Valley's bats were smoking, defeating Fairfield, 18-11 (I told you it was football weather) in Game 1, and 16-5 in game 2.

This coming weekend, the 27th and the 28th, is scheduled for more games. Come out and enjoy some really fine youth baseball at our own Cleve Borman Field. All games, including the Post-season Tournaments, are free to Home Members.

HORSESHOES

Last week I mentioned about the fine volunteers who are renovating the Horseshoe Courts at the Picnic Grounds. I stopped by there a few days ago, and the improvements are amazing. The backstops, the posts, and even the shoes, have been brought 'up to snuff'. A few more renovations, such as making the courts wheelchair accessible, will be done as soon as the weather permits.

So, get those pitching arms in shape, and we'll announce a tournament to introduce the New and Improved Horseshoe Courts. If you get a chance, stop by and see the big changes made, and if any of the Volunteers are there, say "Hello", and "Thank you". They deserve it.

Bob

Thanks, Bob! ~Miles, by Bob "Bleacher Bum" Moschin

CAN SPRING BE FAR BEHIND

The Horseshoe Courts at the Picnic Grounds are being renovated, thanks to a group of Home Members and State Employees, who are volunteering their time. The Courts will be ready to go by Spring, and we'll be setting up leagues and tournaments. There will be accommodations for those in wheel chairs, and rules modifications for those who need lighter shoes, or a shorter distance, to pitch.

This morning, Saturday, February 13, there was a group of adults and youngsters from the Napa Baseball Program, working on Cleve Borman Field, preparing it for the upcoming season. I was informed that, depending on the weather, there will be a game next Saturday, February 20, time to be announced. Watch for the notice. As soon as I get the word, I'll post it here.

If you've never attended a game at Borman field, come on by, it's a beautiful, well-maintained, facility. The youngsters are very well coached, and play some quality baseball. Admission is always free to Home Members.
