     Videos of the Meetings Held at the Veterans' Home have not only been video-taped, they have been downloaded into YouTube so they can be accessed via your PC.  What a great service Jan is providing - his work and dedication are greatly appreciated!

     Rather than post every link here, Jan has suggested that I post the link to YouTube that will take you to the directory.  When you get to the Wine Country Toastmasters Club page, just follow the directory on the left and make your selection.  Here is the link:

     For the sake of sentiment, I have elected to keep the links to the very first two recordings of the Wine Country Meetings:

Welcome our Newest Club!

Dear Toastmasters of District 57,

Please take a moment to read through the brief articles below.  They succinctly contain current activities and news happening in our District that you may be interested in.

Contest Season Has Begun!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Contest Season Has Begun! All clubs should have selected their representatives for their Area Contest during the month of August. You can select your representative any way you choose: if your club doesn't hold a contest, you can ask for volunteers, draw straws, flip a coin, or use any other method of choosing a contestant. Area Contests will be held throughout the month of September. Check out the district calendar on d57toastmasters.org to find your Area Contest. If you have any questions, contact your Area Governor.
Judge Training
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

One of the initiatives in our district this year is to create a new roster of trained judges. There have been many changes to the rules in recent years, and we have not consistently trained judges in the past using Toastmasters International materials and standards. This year, we are using a consistent approach, led by District Chief Judge Paula Foster, to ensure that all judges are up to date on the rules and are using the same set of guidelines for all contestants. In some cases, this means "unlearning" certain unofficial standards that have been introduced based on the opinions of well meaning instructors in the past.

Training is available to all members at the September 12th District Executive Committee Meeting, at the Lucky Supermarket, 1300 Fairmont in San Leandro.. The training will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, break for lunch, then continue with a practice session from 1:00-2:00 p.m. If you would like to attend, please RSVP to Paula Foster at pjf2qhca@yahoo.com.

Another judge training opportunity will be held on Tuesday, September 15th at Bio-Rad, 875 Alfred Nobel Dr., Hercules, CA 7:00-9:00 p.m. For more information or to RSVP, please contact Paula Foster at pjf2qhca@yahoo.com.

Honors Breakfasts

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Honors Breakfast for Vice Presidents, Education on Saturday, September 26th and VPs of Membership and Public Relations on Saturday, October 3rd
All VPEs are invited to join Lt. Gov. Education & Training Dennis Dawson at Pier 29 Restaurant, 1148 Ballena Boulevard in Alameda on Saturday, September 26th, 8:30-11:00 a.m. This event is free of charge, to honor you for your service to our district and its members.
    Guest speakers for this event are Tevis Thompson, PID, Craig Harrison, PDG, and Brendan Murphy, DTM. Please attend for a morning of inspiration and education with some of our district's top speakers!
    Please RSVP by Saturday, September 19 to Dennis Dawson at dawson_dennis@emc.com so that we can give the restaurant a head count (if you have questions, you can send those to Dennis, as well).
All VPMs and VPPRs are invited to join Lt. Gov. Marketing Keith Patterson at the same location and time on Saturday, October 3rd.
Again, this is free to honor you for your service, and provide some interesting and useful information to help you do your job.
   Our speaking program hasn't been fleshed out yet, but it will definitely be worth your while to come join us.
   RSVP by Saturday, September 26th to Keith Patterson at KPsails@yahoo.com.
Volunteers for the Fall Conference
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Our Fall Conference will be held November 14 at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill. There are many volunteer opportunities available for you to help make the Fall Conference a success. Contact Conference Chair JoAnn Juhala for more information (jjuhala@sbcglobal.net).

If interested in presenting an educational session at the Fall Conference, please read the Call for Presentations flyer, available at www.epcomm.com/tm/cfp.pdf.

Welcome our Newest Club!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The newest club to join our D57 family is Yountville's Wine Country Toastmasters at the Veterans' Home of California.  Under the enthusiastic leadership of club president Walter Feszchak, this club chartered Saturday 9/5/09.  They meet on Saturdays from 8:30-9:30 at 260 California Street in Yountville.  They welcome all visitors, so please join them for a pleasant Saturday morning activity in wine country.  For more information, or to arrange to visit the club, please contact their club President at ToastmastersAtYountville@gmail.com.
